U.S. Senator, Nancy Kassebaum, said, "There can be infinite uses of the computer and new age technology, but if the teachers themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails." Please help me incorporate more technology into our daily classroom learning!
My students are 6th graders at an elementary school in Oklahoma.
We live in a community that was recently devastated by a tornado. Although, our school was okay, many students at our school lost their homes or their homes sustained a lot of damage. I teach typical 11-12 year old kiddos! They love recess, hanging out with their friends and learning in new, fun ways. They are amazing! I want to bring in more technology to our classroom that we can use on a daily basis. Technology pulls kids in; it is a high interest area for them and will be used to enhance their education this year.
My Project
The materials I am asking for will allow my students to have more access to technology in our classroom. Currently, we have a student computer in our classroom and one iPad. There's always a line for students to use the technology for AR tests or to do research. Adding two more iPads will help to alleviate the shortage of technology in our classroom. Students take reading tests on the computer all of the time to reach their reading goal for that nine weeks. I also want them to have access to internet resources for research projects. Students are required to write argumentative essays and must have a certain amount of evidence to support their thesis statement. The Belkin Rockstars that I am asking for will create multiple reading centers in the classroom. They will attach to the iPads and then five students can hook in their headphones. I will use these leveled centers to pique reading interest with different novels. These resources will allow for much more technology use in class.
These donations will make a difference by giving my students more opportunities to use technology in our classroom everyday.
These resources will allow me to create lessons that really get my students involved in the research and information process. This is an area that students repeatedly perform low on the state tests. I would like to incorporate more lessons using online resources to help prepare them for the tests. These materials will have a huge impact on my students daily learning.
