Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Seeing the glow in my students' eyes and the smiles on their faces when they enter our classroom can be described as PRICELESS. My students don't go home to much, if anything at all and I want to expose them to the best for those 7 hours they spend with me. To teach is to touch a life forever.
I teach at a Title 1 school in a low socioeconomic neighborhood.
My students can be misconceived as ones who are angry and have behavioral issues, but you can't judge a book by its cover. My students are only looking for someone to give them structure and to make them feel successful and celebrated. It is my job as their teacher to do just that. I want to provide them with the tools they need to move beyond the walls of their surroundings and to know that they can be whatever they want to be. Showing them that you care only makes things easier. My job as an educator is not to teach the curriculum, but to teach the child.
My Project
I want to expose my students to books, but also the tools to use to read those same books on electronic devices. In using the mini iPad, I want to expose my primary grade level students to the app, Osmo, a tool that can be used for basic reading a letter name and sound recognition. The mini iPad will also be used to read books online to the students. This will help them in becoming a better reader. In using the Samsung ATIV laptop my students will be able to publish their writings as an author would do with a book making it look like a finished copy. The easel will be used in our classroom for whole group instruction, as well as, centers (e.g. poetry and word work). The rug will give us a central location to come and meet together as a class. Seeing my students excited about those things we have in our classroom will only make things more the better.
Providing my students with these items for this project will allow them to enhance their love for reading using not just an ordinary book but another tool that they may not ever be exposed to during their childhood of reading.
