The students in my kindergarten classroom are as diverse as the tourist-dependent community in which they reside. They enter the kindergarten classroom with a wide range of abilities, expertise, and expectations.
A large portion of my students are from single parent homes and over half of the district population is classified at the poverty level.
One-fourth of that population is classified as intergenerational poverty students. When students enter kindergarten, generally 50% or more score well below grade-level on our benchmark assessments. Regardless of any disadvantages, these kindergarten students are excited to learn.
My Project
We will be using the four requested iPods in several different ways within the classroom to work with QR codes. Students will use these codes to assist their independent practice with alphabet letters, numbers, sight words, etc. They will be able to scan the QR cards, be linked to assigned activities, and allowed to find, listen, write, and more. QR activities are a favorite of all students!
QR codes will also be used for story listening, instruction giving, reading practice, and more.
In fact, QR codes can be created for any kindergarten skill! Kindergarten students are at the beginning stages of learning, and creating an encouraging “hands-on” environment will help to create lifelong learners!
