iPods for Literacy!!
My students need 2 iPods for our listening center.
Help our classroom, were stuck in the cassette tape era!
I teach Kindergarten at a high poverty school in North Carolina.
My school is a Title 1 school which means over 50 percent of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Many of my students that I teach are English Language Learners and come from diverse backgrounds.
I'm requesting 2 iPods for our listening center. My students will be able to pick up the iPod and a book, find the book's cover art on the iPod, and listen to the story over and over again. The mix of technology with literature will motivate them to choose and listen to a wide variety of books. Using iPods will improve their fluency, increase their comprehension and vocabulary skills.
This project is so important for my students, who often times lack reading materials and the support at home.
By providing my class with a listening center with current technology, their love of reading will expand and they will grow as readers.
