Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students from my school live in one of the highest inner-city poverty areas in not just New York, but in the entire nation.
Now the school is happening online and it still continues to serve students, providing a much-needed distraction from the multitude of daily stresses students are faced with.
Each school day, my students show up for daily live Google Meet sessions and complete online assignments.
During this pandemic, students are engaging in remote learning while many are also acting as essential workers and/or living with essential workers, placing them at risk each day. Adding to daily stress are high rates of asthma and dense living quarters. Additionally, many students live with grandparents or relatives with pre-existing conditions.
Despite being disproportionally affected by this coronavirus pandemic, my students are demonstrably resilient.
My Project
I am currently teaching students remotely from home while simultaneously sharing my home with my 2 children who are students of another remotely instructed school.
For this project, I am requesting an iPad with pen in order to deliver lessons unhindered by limited device access.
Consistency is powerful and with the addition of this iPad, I can provide the unfettered quality instruction that my students deserve during this very uncertain time. While no amount of quality remote learning can truly replace live instruction, any quality remote instruction will certainly ease student stress.
