My students need easily accessible technology in the classroom. My students will use these two iPads daily to improve their foundational reading abilities.
I am a first year teacher with the exciting opportunity to impact little minds and hearts every day as a kindergarten teacher. I am beyond excited to begin this journey in my teaching career with students that are at the beginning of their formal learning voyage. My students are a diverse group of kiddos with varying backgrounds, interests and abilities. As a new teacher, I am continually looking for ways to better my classroom and learning environment. It is my hope to create a safe and comfortable place that my students realize that they have the ability to do and be all things.
I have come to realize that there are many necessities that teachers (especially first year teachers) need in order to create that caring and inclusive learning environment.
There are many students in my class that come from households that fall in a low socio-economic status and therefore do not have access to newer technology at home. It is important to teach all students about technology and the ways that it can be used to ease their educational path as well as enhance their learning journey.
My Project
My students will use these iPads during our daily reading rotation to improve their reading capabilities. The iPads will also be used as a reward for student behavior by allowing students that continually follow classroom rules to use these materials first. Students will be expected to follow classroom rules and procedures to be allowed access to the iPads. Therefore, the iPads will also be used as an incentive for students that are having trouble following classroom rules and procedures. All students will be given the opportunity to use the iPads but each student will have to earn their turn through positive behavior.
