This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic learners especially when it comes to all things STEAM related. My classroom consists of a wide variety of student abilities. Our school is the ESL magnet school, which means a number of my students are learning the English language as well as 6th-grade science concepts during our class period. Technology gives those individuals the opportunity to collaborate with classmates they may not have the opportunity to.
Science is a class where my students have the ability to learn through authentic, hands-on experiences and technology has become an important tool in STEAM education.
My students eyes light up when they hear the words engineer, Makerspace, coding and design. Most of my students do not have access to technology outside of what they see here at school.
My Project
Technology allows a science classroom to come alive. With these iPads, our classroom will become a collaborative room where students can create and design together. Using our Dash and Dot robot is limited to when we can borrow iPads; with our own, we can utilize these wonderful pieces of technology whenever an opportunity presents itself.
With the donations of iPads, my students will be able to access technology and skills needed to be successful in the 21st century; such as collaboration, critical thinking, perseverance, and design thinking.
Students will be able to code robots to help ESL students learn the English language, complete an obstacle course designed by their peers, or use augmented reality to discover biomes around the world. The possibilities are endless with new technology.
