Reading can take you on travels across the world or even into a new fantasy world. I hope to show my students the magic in reading, and inspire them to love reading. Sometimes reading is seen as tedious task, but this can be addressed through the use of technology!
I work in an urban school district where many students do not always have access to technology, and, often times, hard copies of books, outside of the classroom due to financial circumstances.
The students at my school are working VERY hard to prove their reading skills, particularly their comprehension of text.
My Project
The students will use the iPads and headphones to listen to text, and simultaneously build comprehension skills. Studies show that if a student is able to LISTEN to the words in a text, rather than struggle to decode the words themselves, reading comprehension increases.
These iPads will build my students confidence that they are able to comprehend text on a deeper level! I also hope that the students will use the iPads to discover and develop a love for reading that will become a lifelong habit!
The students will be able to interact will technology, in an education manner,daily which will build their 21st century learning skills, and make them more prepared for their future.
I also hope, and will strongly push, for this technology to plant a seed of LIFE LONG reading habits! I hope that by being able to listen to more stories, rather than struggle to decode, my students will be able to enjoy many beautifully written books.
