My Students
My students are creative and empathetic children who love to collaborate and debate with each other. They are inquisitive and genuinely excited about learning, even when language or other barriers make it difficult. I'm an EL teacher who works primarily with our EL population, but my groups also include struggling general education and SPED students. Together these students work with me to access the same content as their classroom peers. These tools would allow me to create more meaningful and accessible instruction to all my small literacy groups in Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 4th.
My Project
With regular access to iPads, my EL students will always have a comfortable and accessible way to participate in the group conversation. With two iPads and the use of flipgrid I can give students who don't typically speak up a chance to engage with the discussion while allowed the think time they need to formulate a response. Additionally, I can archive student responses and use them to spark future conversation, as well as inform my language instruction. I also plan to use Ipads to help with students giving themselves self-assessments of how they are as readers, as well as extra literacy practice through the variety of applications Apple offers.
