Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a small, transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade school located in the middle of miles of almond orchards between two small towns. We have roughly 300 students with a single classroom per grade level. My students come from living in the countryside or living in these two towns. My school is considered to be a Title I school. The school may be small, but we are mighty. We have strong parental support and our administration is always encouraging and helping us find ways to help our students. Our staff always works well together and wants what is best for all of our students.
My motto every year is, "Let's try something new." My students have been up to the challenge and have learned to love learning and have found ways to deepen their own learning.
I have a variety of learners every year that can benefit from a wide variety of learning techniques. My students are not just a team, but a close family that takes care of each other. We all want everyone to succeed and reach their full potential.
My Project
I have started a robotics program at my school with primary WeDo LEGO kits, intermediate LEGO kits, and a Project Lead the Way Automation and Robotics program with VEX robotics kits. Our school is only missing the computer component for our school to have all the requirements for a full and successful program.
We have a robotics program in place for kindergarten through eighth grade, but we must have tablets for building, programming, documenting the work, and advancing our program to even greater levels.
Our school has Chromebooks that we use in the classrooms, but we are seeking iPads for portable use and future robotics collaborations and competitions. The tablets will allow for all of our robotics programs to run their apps successfully. This will also allow our students to be mobile as they learn, grow, and build together.
Apple iPads will allow for the robotics technology to be up to date for years to come. The Apple product also will provide safety for our students because of their updates. The iPads also allow our students to work with the current systems that are installed in our school's classrooms. This will allow for students to mirror their screens to projectors and Bluetooth with speakers in the classrooms.
