I have the ultimate pleasure of working with smart, enthusiastic and hard-working first graders in a Title 1 school in NYC. My class is part of an inclusive program with some students on the autism spectrum and some neurotypical learners. My students care for one another in a way that I find inspiring. My students enjoy a balance of high-energy activities and movement breaks along with time to relax and read around the room. Sensory and multiple ways of learning play a big role in my classroom.
My Project
My students are increasingly showing interest in technology and I have seen first-hand how technology is changing their learning and future opportunities. The funding of this project will add to our classroom an iPad and two Osmo tools, one of which is specific to coding. Many of my students need a variety of tools to stimulate their learning. In addition, being in a first grade classroom, it is best to have shorter lessons or activities. Many of these activities are tangible and/or visual. The iPad and Osmo tools will provide these opportunities in a highly engaging way. These tools will help each of my students learn to the best of their abilities.
I am excited to share these tools with my students and look forward to the joy on their faces when they see how small movements make a difference.
I hope that these tools, matched with hard-work, will continue to show my students the biggest and best things the world has in store for them.
