I have 19 wonderful students in my classroom, who love to learn. My students are kind, funny and encourage each other to do well in school and in life. My class comprises of students with special needs as well English as a Second Language Learners. My students do not hear the English Language beyond the four walls of our school. Their parents do not have the English language skills to ask them questions or reinforce lessons learned in school.
I am a Special Education teacher and in order to truly differentiate my teaching and address all the needs of my students, I want to reach the wide range of interests.
I teach in a Title 1 school district, so resources can be limited. However, I want my students to understand that our surroundings and situations don't determine our outcomes in life. I want them to know that they can be successful and thrive wherever they are.
My Project
Each year, our students work on different projects across various subjects to learn about topics, such as Native Americans, Motives for Exploration, Food Chain and Webs, Persuasive Writing etc. These projects help my students learn vital researching skills as well as spark their curiosity. To support my different learners, I model how to research on different topics using reliable sources and then allow them to independently learn and inquire about topics of either their choosing or topics I've selected.
I am asking for iPads for my classroom to support my students in their quest for knowledge.
By teaching the children how to safely utilize the internet to research and complete their task, you will be supporting them for a lifetime. Research is an essential skill in order to be well educated and leads the children to be able to pursue knowledge.
