I teach in an extremely rural, low-income school district because of this many students do not have the needed resources to be successful at school. We have had a high teen pregnancy, as well as students who struggle with drug abuse and broken families. While they are still teenagers, they show a remarkable level of maturity when dealing with certain situations. They are looking for their teacher to be a role model many of whom have none. It is my goal to provide them with the resources for ultimate learning within my classroom.
We are located in South Mississippi and many of my students have never traveled beyond this region.
They cling to traditional values and find it difficult to expand their understanding to other people or walks of life. Our students struggle to meet their required needs for the day much less worrying about homework or school supplies. My classroom has the feel of a warm home environment which helps my students to feel safe and loved during the amount of time they are with me day in and day out. My hope is to provide them with the needed supplies to make each day a pleasant experience.
My Project
In my classroom of high schoolers, we work as a team. I place my students of 24 in 6 groups. Our students thrive on visiting the eras of US HISTORY by using technology. We can learn so much by having an iPad assigned to each group.
iPads in the midst of our groups for research and educational games playing is a dream for our students.
We have Chromebook carts at our school but there are never enough to go around. Having these iPads in our room would eliminate the reservation of these Chromebooks giving others the opportunity to use them.
