These students at my school are very imaginative and come from a small community. My school is located in a rural area and serve about 200 students. Our population in our community is very small which limits our funding options. My school is also Title 1.
Our school focuses on Arts intergration, which means we do our best to incorporate as many visual arts, theater arts, and music into our lessons as possible.
This year, I have 11 students in my class at differing abilities in both math and reading. Using different materials in the classroom will help them exceed to their best abilities.
My Project
First grade is such an important and exciting year -- it is when a child makes the most progress! Students typically come into 1st grade reading at a level D and are expected to leave reading at a level J. They come in with some number sense and understanding of solving addition and subtraction problems. Many students will need interventions and more assistance in math, and many students who will need to be enriched. iPads will give every student an opportunity to practice reading and mathematical skills during the day to explore different apps and stories.
Today's technology has so much to offer students in the classroom.
Having iPads will make learning fun while also personalizing learning to meet each student's particular need. Students will be able to rotate through math and literacy stations, iPads being on of them. At this station, they will be able to get on apps that are targeted to their learning needs.
I also plan on having the students conduct different research projects using QR codes to find their information. iPads make it very easy for students to find the correct information for their projects. These iPads will open many different possibilities in our classroom!
