Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarteners need a strong foundation in basic skills. They require repetitive practice in order to master new skills and generalize them across different settings. My students are energetic and eager to make progress. iPad minis are a fun way for them to practice and reinforce basic skills.
We are a kindergarten, dual language classroom in a public school in Connecticut.
Our students are learning English and Spanish in our program. They are learning to read and write in both languages.
Our students are motivated and excited to learn two languages! Many of my students receive free and reduced lunch.
My Project
My students will use the 2 requested iPad minis (and cases) across different subject areas this school year. They will utilize the iPads to work on remedial math skills and reinforce current grade level material. My students will also use the iPads to access a variety of reading materials.
The iPads will allow them to both listen and read stories that are not part of their classroom library. Students will be able to utilize the online portion of district math and reading programs. They will also be able to access the online portion of our Scholastic, "Let's Find Out" magazine.
The iPads will provide a new and engaging way for my students to practice different skills. By mastering new skills, my students will have more confidence and independence in the classroom.
When students are provided with direct instruction, and then given ample opportunities to practice skills, they can become independent with basic kindergarten skills.
By reinforcing these concepts through an iPad mini, they don't even know they are working. They feel like they are playing a game. Many of my students do not have computers or tablets in their homes. This technology will broaden their exposure to technology and deepen their foundational skills.
