My students need an iPad to help them communicate with one another, folders to take thing to and from home and last games that will help them gain social skills.
Not many of us remember our first words, but many have heard a small child speak for the first time. My goal for my students is to help them find a way to use there voices, even if there voice is coming through a electronic device. No child should have to live a life of silence.
I am a first year teacher excited to start a new adventure in my first life skills classroom.
My school is in a poverty-stricken urban area that has little to no supplies for teachers. I have ten students that I have recently met and found that they are enthusiastic about the upcoming school year! The boys and girls in my classroom are beautiful individuals that want to learn and grow.
My Project
In my classroom this year some of my students are searching for a way to communicate with the world, where others are searching to communicate in a way that will help them make friends. Through games and technology my students can gain the ability to speak for themselves and gain social skills needed to make friends and succeed in the community. We will utilize the iPad by using different communication applications to help the students discover a voice. On top of communication the iPad can provide education opportunities that my students have not experienced before in their education. The different games I have requested will be used multiple times a week to work on turn taking, social communication skills and math skills.
New school, new teacher and a new start is what is in stored for my middle school students this year.
We all know starting new is hard, but they are even harder when you do not have a way to communicate your needs. This project will make it possible for my students to connect to their peers and me as they start the next exciting steep in their educational career.
