My Students

My students are Special Education with Severe/Profound Disabilities in the Middle School setting. These students have several stumbling blocks in front of them and a public education shouldn't be one of them. It is my goal to provide the best materials and resources available to these students while in my classroom. They deserve a classroom without any barriers that prevent them from learning. With your help, I will teach them to scale any wall to achieve more than anyone thought they could. Learning should not be too difficult, too frustrating and not accessible. I’m working under the theory set from an old Kevin Costner movie, “if you build it, they will come.” If I build it, they will climb higher.

My Project

Some of my students with severe/profound disabilities are non-verbal. Some are visually or hearing impaired. Others, with multiple disabilities, may also be orthopedically impaired. My objective is to motivate my students or allow them to make choices in a way that meets their individual needs.

iPads give a voice to the non-verbal, allow students to make choices, puts the curriculum in their hands and individualizes their lessons.

Students with severe/profound learning disabilities need more resources that assist them in interacting with their lessons such as touching a picture to choose, listening to a story or audio choices and bringing the smartboard to an orthopedically impaired student's lap.
