My students need two iPads for our Technology Center so they can explore digital art, illustration, stop-motion animation, and upload their art onto our online art gallery to share with their families.
My students live in a growing small town and attend a Title I public school. Everyone in Kindergarten - 6th grade at our school visits my Art classroom once a week for 40 minutes to explore and express unique interests and perspectives through art. I have seen my students develop friendships while encouraging one another to face challenges, share ideas, and grow as young artists.
From unicorns to race cars to underwater submarines and to galaxies far, far away, my students love to create drawings, paintings, and sculptures from their imagination.
Likewise, they have a desire to create art about their families, feelings, and past experiences. I am continually surprised at how thoughtful my students are when they collaborate and motivate one another in Art class. The joy and excitement my students express when they get the opportunity to explore a new media or art technique is priceless. They love discovering new ways to make art and express their creativity!
My Project
Two new iPads will help make our Technology Center at the front of our Art classroom a success. Most classes at our school have 20-25 students and we currently have one iPad in our Tech Center. My students would love to experiment with digital animation, illustration, and photography, but are limited by their lack of access to technology in the Art room. The two new iPads will give my students the opportunity to explore stop motion animation and digital illustration using apps such as ProCreate. The iPads will also allow my middle school students access to their online art gallery where they can upload images of their art and write about their inspiration online to share with their families.
Providing my students the chance to explore digital art will encourage them to develop 21st century skills while creating ideas, solving problems, and developing their voice as young artists.
