We have a wonderful classroom, filled with students who enjoy learning and school. Everyday I learn something new from the students that I teach; their creativity is remarkable.
Like every classroom, the students in our classroom are very unique.
Each student learns in his/her own way, and we strive to allow that to happen. I speak using the words 'our' and 'we', because I work very closely with a Learning Support teacher. About half of the students that I teach receive learning support. Also, students' socioeconomic backgrounds vary. I recognize that this has a direct impact on learning, and I try very hard to create a structured, comfortable, and welcoming learning environment.
My Project
My students need iPads to inspire motivation, creativity, self-monitored learning, and to improve comprehension within every subject area. Currently, I teach a modified Reading and Math Workshop. That means that for at least part of each subject area, students are working independently to complete a task. If I had iPads available, I could find engaging and meaningful "apps" designed to support each subject area and the concepts being taught that could be used during each independent activity. Additionally, I could download "apps" for the iPads that help students who have difficulty writing and/or putting thoughts on paper. This would help with Writing Workshop. Also, the camera on the iPads would help with documenting learning; and I could teach students to use this tool to document their own learning.
The incredible amount of learning based "apps" that students would be able to use with i-Pads would improve student learning and inspire students to guide their own learning.
Additionally, it would expose students to technology that is common and frequently used throughout today's world.
