I would like to ignite a passion for learning and a love for exploring in my classroom. Using iPads in the classroom is the key to integrating technology in order to engage students in a new way of learning!
I teach second grade students ranging in age from 7-8 years old at a small school in a suburban California community.
The children in my class come to school eager to learn and with a desire to improve their skills. As I begin to implement the Common Core standards in the 21st century classroom, there is an increased need for access to technology. Each child comes to school with different backgrounds and experiences. Utilizing technology in the classroom engages students and encourages them to have fun while they learn. It also helps intuitive young children learn the benefits of productive technology use versus using technology strictly for pleasure. It is important to have the tools I need to prepare my students for a future filled with technology and jobs that have not been created yet. I will be able to use this technology to teach them the 21st century skills of creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and digital citizenship.
My Project
As I implement the Common Core Standards for language arts and math, I envision my students in my classroom interacting with the iPad Mini and protective case in many ways. There are several apps that will enhance my teaching and allow my students to be engaged and motivated to improve their skills. Each day, students will have access to listen to stories, take leveled quizzes on books, play interactive games to help strengthen targeted skill areas, work in pairs or small groups at their individual academic levels, and complete small projects on specific learning topics. This project will allow me to be closer to my goal of having enough technology for students to work together and/or in small groups to create presentations and projects that show their learning. My goal is to teach and guide students to also use the iPads for assessment instead of using traditional paper-pencil tests.
We are creating 21st century learners that are growing up with a wealth of technology.
Children love technology because it engages and motivates them. I would love an iPad Mini with a Griffin protective case for my classroom to help foster a love for learning while giving each student an opportunity to use technology in an effective way.
