My co-teacher and I work with an amazing group of 2nd grade students. They live in the inner city and are faced with numerous daily struggles. Despite this, they show up every for class eager to learn and participate.
Our students enter with diverse learning abilities.
While some are above grade level in math and reading, many still struggle to attain required standards. We strive to inspire our students to work hard and grow despite the life and learning challenges they face.
No matter their ability, the majority of our students have a difficult time remaining focused during class. They are unaccustomed and often unable to remain on task for an extended period of time. Much of our work is geared to building their classroom stamina so they can face the educational challenges ahead.
Working in a classroom with diverse learners presents increased teaching challenges. Each student enters with their own set of educational requirements and ability to maintain focus. To meet the needs of each student we implement differentiated instruction during class. This requires detailed planning and increased support materials.
The addition of Ipads in our classroom will help guarantee the success of each student.
We will be able to increase our ability to provide targeted instruction and practice to each student during learning centers. Student engagement will increase due to the diversity of supplemental teaching tools available. Ipads in the classroom will also increase our students' exposure to technology and keep them on target to enter a technology driven world. Our hope is to provide our students with as many opportunities for engagement and success as possible.
