My students need 3 iPads with cases during Daily 5 centers to practice reading and math skills.
Students can also use them to work independently on research projects.
"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow." - John Dewey
The way children learn has changed dramatically in the last several years. The future they prepare for revolves around technology. Each child should have an opportunity to explore different technology tools.
My school is a Title 1 school with a high free and reduced lunch population.
We are a small school with a lot of heart and caring teachers who love our kids and what we do. This year, we're piloting STEM which integrates science, technology, engineering, and math into our curriculum. Our school has started different clubs that incorporate STEM, including kids making claw robots for competitions. We have seen a huge difference in our student attendance and interest in school that we hope to make permanent!
My Project
I believe that for my kids to be successful in today's world, they need to learn by using technology. I have found that my students will pay more attention and learn faster if the skills are presented using some form of technology such as computers, iPads, etc. I would love to use iPads in my Daily 5 Centers where students practice different skill sets in math and reading.
Coming from a small town my kids don't get the same experiences of kids from more affluent neighborhoods. I want my kids to experience the wonderful things the world can offer them and they can do this by having daily access to technology. I plan to have the kids do research projects on things they are passionate about like animals, space, dinosaurs, and different cities. I want my students to have every opportunity to succeed.
My students will be able to learn about the world around them.
They will practice and master skills necessary for success. I hope to give them a picture of what is possible for their lives. I want to show them career options, places to visit in the world, and new experiences to broaden their choices from what they experience in our small corner of the world.
