Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom is busy, fast paced, and full of learning. At the end of the year, I want my students to be prepared and confident, in all areas, for second grade. A challenge we have getting there is the limited amount of resources that we have.
My students come from a very wide range of backgrounds.
Some of my students want for nothing; they have mom and dad at home, both with full-time jobs, clean clothes, full tummies, and smiling faces. On the other side, I have students who come from very fragile, broken home lives that, a lot of times, need new clothes and a good meal. However, regardless of their background, they are all eager to learn every day. They are ecstatic when they learn something new, and are willing to work harder when they don't quite understand. This year, my school is brand new. However, with the budget needing to go many other places, we do not have everything that I believe would greatly benefit our students.
My Project
My students would greatly benefit from iPads in a multitude of ways. Every day, we do stations in Reading called the Daily 5, and in math. In our Daily 5 stations, the students have a station called "Listen to Reading." During this time, students listen to books on their level being read to them. Having an example of how fluency in a reading should sound helps students tremendously. There are many programs that allow this and the iPads would be a great tool to help students utilize this resource. In math stations, one rotation that I have always enjoyed having is one where they can play math games on the iPad that align with what they are learning. Kids learn best by doing and I have seen kids catch onto topics by playing these math games. It makes kids think while all they think they are doing is playing a game. iPads would greatly benefit my students in reading stations and in math stations.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by giving my students a greater opportunity to succeed.
By using these iPads, my students will have access to far more programs on a daily basis than they would have otherwise. These iPads will change my student's lives for the better by allowing them access to many instructional programs that they otherwise would not have access to. These instructional programs will enhance and support their learning in the classroom.
