Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our class is composed of 18 bright eager students who love first grade. We are at a Title I school where all of our students qualify for free & reduced lunch. School is their safe haven and also a place where they can access everything the world has to offer them. 55% of our students are English language learners and most students do not enter 1st grade reading at grade level. We spend all year working on catching our students up so that they are reading at a first-grade level and ready for second grade. Sometimes this does not happen, but we try our best with what we have!
Technology is a great way to meet students at their individual level with engaging programs to strengthen their reading skills.
Currently, in our classroom, we have 6 old desktop computers, but we have 4 amazing reading programs I would love to use to assist my struggling readers. This just isn't possible with our old desktops. I want to provide them every technological advantage possible to set them up for success!
My Project
With the resources requested students will be able to engage in various reading programs that are online. The tablets will help increase students motivation while at the same time providing them with repeated opportunities to be self-directed learners.
The reading programs we have available for the students, allows students to grow at their own pace by providing students multiple opportunities to feel successful and show their reading comprehension abilities.
Reading is the most important skill a student can have. Through reading, students are able to improve in their critical thinking skills and their content knowledge. Improving students reading comprehension will open new possibilities for students.
