Did you know that with technology the world opens up and a teacher can be a tour guide through the world? Technology also allows teachers to meet individual needs of each student.
Most of my students are 3 or 4 grade levels behind in reading, and most of them lack basic skills that they need to be a good reader.
Even though they are behind in reading they are a group of hard working students. We are a small district in Illinois with budget constraints, so being able to purchase an iPad for the classroom would open up so many opportunities for my students.
My Project
If we had an iPad for our classroom we would be able to access many apps that would help meet individual students needs. The iPad would also allow students to learn in manner that they are use to and that is through technology. This iPad would allow students to learn on their level and open up subjects and areas that they would not normally have access to, things like You Tube videos and current events. They would also give students access to hundreds of online books that the school does not have available currently.
This project is so important because the iPad could become a 2nd teacher in the room.
While I am working with a group of students, another group can be using the iPad to improve in an area like letter sounds or vocabulary. This one iPad could change my classroom by the amount of material that is now made available to students. Most importantly this iPad will help students grow as readers as well as grow in their confidence to read.
