Albert Einstein said "Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school." I hope to change that with my 8th grade students.
We are an inner city gifted and talented school.
Our base population is in high poverty but we pull students from the surrounding area. I teach four classes of gifted science and two classes of basic science... 165 students. Hands-on learning really helps them to master the concepts. Students learn best by being actively engaged in their activity. I can teach a child....but a child that works with his/her hands will learn so much more! Students will become bored with a teacher lecturing. When they are actively engaged in a hands-on activity, they will remember so much more.
My Project
I am requesting 4 ipads. Ultimately, I would like to have 8 in the classroom. That way students will be able to work in groups of 4. iPads can be used for demonstration purposes and also can be used as a station while students are completing other activities. My classroom has limited technology. Science and technology go hand and hand. I am putting my students at a disadvantage by not having the technology. Some students have no access to technology at home. Having access at school will level the playing field for them.
Having iPads for our classroom will improve our current lab and research methods.
There are many times I would like to tell students to "google it"... but our current technology is so poor, the computers oftentimes, won't boot up. It will allow the students to have access to technology that are readily available to schools that are better funded.
