iPads for Research and Self- Management Cognitive Skills!
My students need iPads, timers, and cases to incorporate non-fiction based research and to develop time management and study skill strategies across the curriculum for life-long learning!
My classroom is a busy place, serving 40+ students in the general and special education setting on a daily basis. All students are excited about learning and researching non-fiction scientific topics related to their literature and writing. iPads give them this independence and skill!
My students are a dynamic group ranging in age from kindergarten to 5th grade in a large public school serving 600+ students.
I have the privilege of providing both push-in and pull-out services to 40+ students, working closely with the general education teachers to provide maximum support to all students.
When my students begin a theme in Language Arts, they have so many questions. They want to know everything about the topic they are reading about. I provide as much background information as possible; however, they would be so empowered if they could conduct their own research using reading skill strategies, note-taking, and use of the scientific exploration. What better way to utilize their skills now for future success in high school and beyond!
Students also benefit from specific training in time management, use of cognitive strategies, and study skills to guide them with their research. There are many apps that can be utilized on our iPads that would benefit all students.
My Project
My students need iPads, timers, and cases. iPads will allow all of my students K-5th grade, to make their learning come alive. By being able to work independently and in cooperative groups, they will be able to access and conduct research to further develop their background knowledge. Students will be able to use this research to further their breadth of knowledge to better prepare for expository writing tasks and investigations across the curriculum. Students can also access differentiated reading materials suited for their instructional level.
The iPads will also integrate with our Apple TV so students can prepare and demonstrate their projects using a wide range of presentation modalities. The iPads also allow students to use a variety of cognitive-based apps to further develop study/learning skills and of course, time management and homework strategies.
The iPads will be an integral component of today's curriculum and will enable students to reach their goals and to become lifelong learners. A goal for ALL!
Students will become empowered in their own learning through technology attained from use of the iPads.
Students will be able to delve into non-fiction research to quench their curiosities at their individualized reading levels. They will learn more about their own cognitive learning styles through the various apps designed to improve learning/study skills. Students will also be empowered with a sense of time management; a vital lifelong skill for all to attain and embrace.
