Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Kindergarten teacher who works in an urban, public school. We are a Title 1 school, which means approximately 60% or more of our students live in lower income households. My school is rich in ethnic and cultural diversity, and this makes my classroom so beautiful and always unique.
Every year, my kindergarteners' curiosities are brimming with wonder and eagerness to learn!
They enter with so many different interests, talents, strengths, and challenges. I am passionate about getting to know each student, facilitating their learning, and encouraging them to grow academically as well as socially and emotionally.
My Project
During last year's remote learning experience, I found that my students were most successful using iPads. iPads are intuitive and create less frustration for my young learners. It can be very difficult and overwhelming for children who are still developing motor skills, manipulating between a keyboard, mouse, and screen. Fortunately, the touch screen and all-in-one components of an iPad make it easier for diverse learners, ESL students, and struggling students to not only use, but master the process.
Your donation will provide educational equity among my students.
Not all of my students have equal access to technology at home. These iPads will be put directly into students' hands that have no other reliable means to access online learning . With your help, students will have equal access to important Apps and developmentally appropriate platforms, such as Seesaw, that enhance Reading, Math, and learning about the world through the touch of a finger. This access allows ALL of my students the important practice that optimizes their learning and builds upon their kindergarten skills. In addition, students will be able to login to live "meet ups" for whole class instruction, one-on-one conferences with their teachers, and for small group learning. New iPads will give students an easy way to complete differentiated lessons and submit assignments.
Once remote learning comes to a close and we are back in person, the possibilities of iPads in the classroom are endless! We can use them during center time to sharpen our literacy and math skills, listen to books, research, build online student portfolios, record our stories, among so many other ways to inspire new learning.
Thank you so much for considering a donation to help my kindergarten students!
