My students need these iPads because I work with struggling readers and one of the many tools we use, are reading intervention programs on an iPad. Currently I am sharing 2 iPads among 24 students.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an RSP teacher in a school in an elementary school in San Jose. The neighborhood is a low socio-economic area, with the majority of students qualifying for free school lunch. Many of our students are English Language Learners.
For the most part, our students come to school excited and eager to learn, and the culture of the school is one of "happy learners." My students are in grades transitional kindergarten through 6th grade and have a variety of disabilities including autism and Specific Learning Disabilities.
Their needs are many but we are excited, as are they, to see them making progress. Progress is a struggle but so precious when those gains are made.
My students are in general education but come to my classroom for help with reading, writing and math.
My Project
My students are struggling readers, many of whom do not have access to technology in the home. Having more iPads in my classroom will mean more students have access to technology in my classroom.
This frees up some of my time to work with students individually and help them in a more effective way.
To say that reading changes the life of a child is an understatement. To see the face of a child who has made minimal progress in reading read their first book aloud without a mistake is one of my great joys in life. However, I cannot do this without the tools to do my job and we really need more technology.
