My students need two iPads; they will be used as AAC devices to help some of my students communicate their wants and needs, and fully participate in classroom activities, without restrictions.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a PAL (Preschool For All Learners) classroom in a low-income school located in Los Angeles, CA. All of my students apply for free meals (breakfast & lunch) and half of them are transported on the bus to get to school. All other students walk to school with their guardians, and some even have to take public transportation to get to school. Many of my students rely on donations from others to have clothes and shoes. A few of my students are in the foster care system.
Because my students have special needs (autism, DD, SLI, MDO, OHI), all of them receive the following services: speech, occupational therapy, and adaptive P.E.
Services are provided once a week, except for Speech. Speech is provided twice a week for one hour a day. It is a service that is embedded in the program and it is probably one of the most important services. When my students began school, many of them were pre-verbal. They had no language and very few ways to communicate their wants and needs (e.g., pointing, gestures). Some of my students have progressed, but a few of them might not be able communicate without technology.
My Project
Imagine coming into an environment where your teacher's advocated for you? Where they found an effective way to give you a voice and have your wants and needs heard AND met? That is what these iPad's would do for my classroom. Not only would they help my students express their wants and needs, it will allow them to fully participate in activities throughout the day. It will help them communicate with their peers and help them feel like they belong here.
Being three years old is hard, and not being able to communicate is even harder.
In my classroom, I don't want to limit my students. All students should have access to an education, no matter how old they are or what their abilities are. We will use these iPad's to build on and strengthen all my students needs. This is just the start. Not only will this benefit them in the classroom, it will also benefit them in the outside world and in their everyday lives.
