My students need 5 iPad minis with cases to utilize various apps to improve movement skills and learning is maximized for students in my other classes who have language barriers.
We are located in a high poverty area where parents work long hours and we also have many retired and active duty military families. Many of our students are not exposed to team sports or physical activity outside of the school setting because of parent work schedules.
Our school does not offer any after-school team sports options, and many of our students are learning about different athletic games during our PE time.
I want to be able to give my students the best physical education opportunities no matter our location. With funds low, it has been many years since we have gotten new sports equipment for our students to use.
My Project
By having an iPad to use with my Physical Education students, I will be able to create stations. During station rotations, I will be able to focus on skills with a small group while another group of students uses the iPad to complete a movement activity, like GoNoodle or view a video that demonstrates how to do a stretch or activity. The visual support of the iPad will help my PE students to develop accurate technique while staying engaged and keeping their heart rate in their targeted zone.
The addition of the iPad to my classes would not only benefit my Community Physical Education students, but also students that participate in General Physical Education.
Similar to the Community Physical Education students, stations can be conducted in which students scan QR codes to learn how to do an activity or they can create videos of their peers completing an exercise in order to critique the move for improvement.
As the teacher, I can use the iPad to play music, keep score, and create teams at random. This year, I have many students that are English Language Learners and would benefit from having access to an iPad in order to effectively communicate through a translation app.
As you can see, an iPad would serve many purposes for my students and for myself as the teacher. The iPad could be used with all students in various ways but most importantly, it would increase student engagement and movement in my Physical Education classes.
