Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are greeted at the door every single morning. They are asked how their day is and they immediately run to greet their classmates. They are reminded throughout the day that they are role models, as they are constantly setting an example for others.
My classroom is full of 26 energetic students who see the bright side in everything they do.
They come from a low-income neighborhood and many from Spanish-speaking families. Although they come from a low-income neighborhood, they have a tremendous amount of potential to be leaders one day!
My Project
My students need iPad minis in the classroom to learn and explore. They can use different programs on the iPad mini to practice sight words, spelling, math facts, increase their reading fluency, and practice financial literacy.
In order to be reading on grade level at the end of first grade, students need to be exposed to many different programs that can enhance the learning.
This can be done through sight word programs, where they practice how to say, spell, and use these words in context. They can also listen to books on tape which will help their fluency by allowing them to hear books aloud while giving them the opportunity to follow along in the text.
Students will also use the iPad to build number sense and basic math operations as they develop a mathematical skills base. They can work with programs that help them build financial literacy as well.
