Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The diversity in our school is what made me want to teach here. My students face many challenges, and, unfortunately, being hungry for access to technology is one of them. A lot of them have rough home lives, and being exposed to the latest technology isn't always a priority.
My students come to school to better their lives, and to get away from their every day stressors at home.
I take pride in knowing that my students want to engage in their education and move on to better opportunities in life. I want them to find connections, and, most importantly, find a way to thrive in the new digital age.
This year, I've noticed that my students are lacking basic technological skills. When we are lucky enough to gain access to Chromebooks to work in Google classroom, many of them struggle with basic typing skills.
They're extremely creative; I want to help my students thrive creatively. In honor of National Poetry Month, I'd like to add 4 iPads to our classroom so that they may create visual poetry through videos and music using iMovie and GarageBand.
My Project
The use of iPads is almost a daily occurrence in our world, especially in regards to modern technology. The usage of iPads will help my students thrive in developing their technology-based skills, something that is essential in the modern world. They will also allow me to see exactly what my students are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work.
While my school is fortunate enough to have some technology, our computer carts are constantly being battled over for district and state testing.
Students in electives, such as my poetry class, are often forgotten in the technology hustle.
I want to ensure that my students are able to build useful skills before entering the real world, as well as figure out how to juxtapose their technological skills with their creativity. Through the use of iPads, my students will be able to find their true inner poets and create fantastical visual and audio poetry. What could possibly be a better way to celebrate National Poetry Month 2017?
