My students are very hands-on and tactile learners. They learn better with non-lecture style lessons.
My students are 8th grade students with special needs.
They are very active and perform well with tactile lessons that involve audio, visual, and hands-on activities. My school is a high poverty school, serving students who might not always have the privilege of having computer technology (such as iPads) to use outside of school.
My Project
The classes I teach are relatively small, so my class could benefit even from a small amount of iPads. By having direct access to them, student could use them more often, giving them more opportunities with them, and making things more efficient for me, their teacher, by not having to go through the process of borrowing and returning computer equipment within our school. My students would be using it mainly for internet research. However, I do have many app-based social studies curriculum that I have been interested in trying out with my classes. Receiving these iPads would help me make that happen.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom my giving my students more opportunities to access the internet and research.
With students with special needs, research with photos and videos (as opposed to just text in books) makes it not only so much easier for them to understand, but it will also keep their interest much longer. It also will provide them more access and opportunities to computer technology that they normally might not have.
