My students are enthusiastic and passionate musicians who love performing and exploring different musical outlets! Our school serves an intentionally diverse body of scholars, and our children come from multiple sending districts, which range from financially stable suburban towns to very low income inner cities.
Music is not just an enrichment class for many of our scholars, it is a way of life, a way to express themselves, and a class where they can shine in the spotlight...even if just for a moment.
In fact, many of our most closed off scholars in the typical classroom, open up and express themselves in unthinkable ways in the music room.
In music, our scholars study bucket drumming, keyboard, ukulele, and vocal performance, but outside of a projector and CD player, there is no technology in the music classroom that students can utilize to compose, explore, or experience music on their own.
My Project
Having a set of six iPads in the music classroom will open the door to a whole new world of music education for our scholars. My students will be able to utilize music editing and composing software to create their own music, record their own performances, and explore music technology first hand.
My students who need some extra love and time in music; who struggle with daily attendance; or who have IEP's will be able to use these iPads in class to get caught up on missed work, practice new lessons at their own pace, and use music technology to help them perform and understand music in ways never before thought possible.
With schools currently shut down in our state, these iPads will also serve as a way for students to compose at home and continue their music studies remotely using their own technology, and then easily transfer it over to our classroom iPads when we return to school, so that they can pick up right where they left off, missing little instructional time in music. This will also greatly benefit students who have to miss school for an extended period of time for personal reasons.
iPads will not only help our mini-musicians develop a deeper love of music, but will keep them connected and up to date in their studies while they work at their own pace to create musical masterpieces.
