Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in South El Monte, an area considered to be of high-poverty. The majority (96%) of the students in our school qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch. Despite their economic background, my students are always ready and excited about learning. Our school has performed poorly in state and district assessments, and I strongly believe it is due to the lack of resources offered to the students in this community. My goal is to create and expose children to a learning environment where they can always feel successful, and know that anything that they set their minds to can be accomplished.
My Project
My TK students need iPads for differentiated instruction and to continue practicing their language arts and math skills. Currently during center time, my students are working with games and manipulatives that help them practice number recognition, counting, letter sounds and letter recognition. Having iPads in the classroom will provide students with another option in which they can continue practicing skills learned in the classroom while using programs such as Imagine Learning, Starfall, and IXL, which they will enjoy. Having iPads in the classroom will also expose children to technology, the much-needed technology that will make them successful in this 21st-century learning environment.
