Our Learning Center is a place where struggling students can come and feel successful at school. While many have difficulty with reading, these iPads will provide the necessary assistance to help them feel that they "can do it!"
Our Learning Center is a room shared by three special educators who service thirty-eight students with a variety of special needs, kindergarten through fifth grade, in a public school setting.
Many of our students have language based learning disabilities, difficulty processing information, and sensory issues. Students come to our room ready to learn knowing they are in a safe and positive environment.
My Project
Our students will use these tablets on a rotating schedule during independent reading time. Students will be able to access a wide variety of digital texts through online programs such as RAZ Kids and Scholastic Storia. This will give them the opportunity to read many more books than we have available in our classroom library. Our reading program has a technology component so students will be able to use the iPad to read interesting stories and play games to practice their skills. In addition to this, the access of text on an e-reader will support students in engaging reading in our ever-evolving digital world. This project will change students' lives for the better as we truly believe that it will support students in fostering their love for reading.
Our students will be able to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning.
An iPad helps students who are kinesthetic and visual learners open up the doors of education and individualize their learning experiences. The iPad will become a tool that will help create more authentic learning experiences in the classroom as well as build twenty-first century skills that our children need in order to be successful in a quickly evolving technical world.
