My students need 3 iPads for small group instruction in reading and math and also for independent study time. The big grips will keep the iPads safe during use.
Being a kindergarten teacher to 29 students, there is a lot going on in our class. I am a huge supporter of cooperative learning and developing independent thinkers. My kindergarteners enter school with diverse skills and knowledge and I work hard everyday to differentiate my instruction.
Socially this is a sweet, hardworking group.
They are all so kind and supportive of each other.
Academically, we have a wide range of skills and abilities. I have highly capable students, students learning how to speak English, early entrance students, students with special needs, etc. We have many opportunities in our class to work at our own levels and more importantly, work together. You will often see my students managing themselves in small groups and getting individualized instruction.
Taking this group of students in mind, I am having to even more, differentiate my instruction.
Our school is changing in size and population this year. We are serving more students and have larger class sizes. We are also getting more international students that bring movement both incoming/outgoing throughout the year to our classes. Although the movement can be a challenge, I really appreciate the diversity and the exposure these young students get to different cultures and languages.
My Project
The iPads and the protective iPad cases would be so helpful in my differentiation efforts. They would allow individualized and independent work time as well early exposure to kid friendly technology. My students would be able to work in small groups, work in partners, and work independently on various skills like letter and number recognition, reading at their own level, learning vocabulary, as well as support current on-line supports already at our school like our on-line math and reading program subscriptions.
I would also use the iPads for small group instruction. For early readers and mathematicians there are great apps that would help build and support their skills.
These materials would make such a difference for my classroom and for my students.
My students would get early exposure to technology, which is so much a part of their future. iPads are also kid friendly so this experience can be self guided and of course fun.
The iPads are also another tool I can use to support my students. With my students covering such a wide range, this tool would open up more opportunities to help me reach my goal of growing every student a year.
