Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach kindergarten at a Title I school. The majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. A high percentage of the students in my class are ESOL (English for Students of Other Languages), as well as some students with special needs.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, and I love to foster their uniqueness.
They all bring something special to our classroom. They have limited resources at home, and my goal is to provide them with the resources needed to succeed.
My Project
In my Kindergarten class, I implement reading, differentiated instruction groups based on my students' abilities. At the beginning of the school year, I observe that my students come with a range of abilities and the gap is wide. My class consists of students that do not have the knowledge of the alphabet to students that can read sentences. The differentiated instruction groups give me the opportunity to work at the students' different levels and be able to provide the guidance they need to improve. The tablets will give me all the resources I need at my fingertips. If I need resources for letter knowledge and sounds, I can utilize a learning app that will facilitate the learning process of this concept for my students. This technology will spark my students' interest. For my students that are readers, I can download an app where they can read electronic books and answer comprehension questions.
In Kindergarten we provide the foundation for the students to be successful in the upper grades.
The tablets will make a beneficial impact in my learning environment. My students will be eager to use the technology and have an interest in learning.
