iPads for Kindergarten Scholars!
My students need an iPad, headphones for our laptops and the iPads, and protective cases so that we can use the technology for years to come!
As technological literacy becomes more and more essential to success in today's world, my students run the risk of falling further and further behind. Very few students have computers or tablets at home, so school is their opportunity to explore everything that these tools have to offer!
Our student body is diverse, but they all have one thing in common -- they are ready to learn, eager to succeed, and determined to go to college.
We are a K-6 college prep charter school in a high need neighborhood. 92% of students receive free or reduced price lunch and all come from diverse families, ranging from Hispanic (85%) and African-American (10%) to Pacific Islander (2%). They set goals and work hard to reach them. In kindergarten, our goal is to have every scholar in our class reading on grade level by the end of the year.
My students have been lucky enough to have been provided one iPad this year for the class. Having this resource has inspired me to think about how much we could do with a couple more tablets! Right now, I am able to use the iPad to support learning for students that are struggling and those that are exceeding current benchmarks. While one scholar can be practicing letter formation another can read books and be challenged by comprehension activities that tracks his/her progress! Another iPad would allow twice the access to these wonderful resources.
Classroom technology (especially when cared for with heavy-duty cases!) benefits students for years and years to come.
An iPad, cases, and new sets of headphones will allow my students to access differentiated activities that support learning at just their level in an engaging and relevant way!
