Mrs. Benton from Baltimore MD is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need iPads with protective cases and headphones to practice their reading, mathematics, enrichment, technology, and research skills.

My intervention team works with students who are below grade level and students who are identified as gifted or advanced. We are always looking for ways to make our intervention activities more engaging to help close the gap for our struggling students and push our gifted and advanced students.
Our school is a Title One school located in the inner-city of Baltimore.
We have over 500 students, with 15% of our students on or above grade level in reading and 10% of our students on or above grade level in math. We are fortunate enough to have one full-time interventionist (me) and 3 part-time interventionists to service our struggling students. This year we were able to work with 140 students, which unfortunately did not include all of our struggling students. The students who received support from us absolutely loved it! They were very excited to come and worked very hard while they were there. We saw many groups make significant gains on their assessments as a result of their intervention services. Next year, we are becoming a Gifted and Advanced Learning school to provide services for our high-achieving students, as well. We would also like to expand our intervention program to provide services for more of our struggling students.
The iPads will be a great addition to our intervention room, as they will allow us to personalize the interventions for each student. This year, we noticed that struggling students in the same grade were sometimes struggling in different areas. Since constantly switching groups was not an option for scheduling, we attempted to differentiate our interventions. The iPads with protective cases and earphones would allow some students in the group to work on their individual needs while other members of the group work with an interventionist on a common need. The iPads will be an invaluable resource for our gifted and advanced learners. They will be able to use them for research, Go Quest (an on-line learning program that is specific for each student), and collaborative projects. The iPads would also allow the students to complete independent studies in an area of their choice. For both groups of students, the iPads will provide excitement and technology practice that will help meet the 21st century learning goals.
Meeting needs and supporting as many students as possible while improving or enhancing their knowledge and skills in the areas of reading, science, technology, and mathematics is our goal.
The students love working on the computers and with the Promethean Board. These iPads will add another interactive element to our classroom, helping our students to learn, love, and live.
