Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

A lot of the concepts in Adv Algebra are best understood visually by having a graph. I do not have graphing calculators which makes this difficult. I use the Smart Board to demonstrate graphing with Desmos Calculator but when it comes to their own work time, they do not have something to use.

My students are here for their Artistic Development; dance, singing, instrumental, theater and drawing/painting.

To keep their attention is difficult and when I can use technology to grab them, I do. I only have a Smart Board in the room, I do not have graphing calculators for them and they cannot afford to purchase them. I will use various apps to demonstrate graphing as a class, but when it comes to individual work time, they are on their own. Eventually, I would like to have at least one iPad for each pair of students.

My Project

I am hoping the students can pair up and help each other understand the Standards related to Advanced Algebra visually. iPads, will allow this to happen. I want them to be able to be proficient enough to be able to describe what they can do algebraically as well as graphically and teach a concept to the rest of the class as a year end review.

These iPads will allow students to access visual knowledge of mathematics they would not be able to otherwise, we have no graphing calculators.

They will also become proficient in the use of an iPad and carry that knowledge with them to college and their careers.
