My students need an iPad in order to access advanced technology that will aid with expressive communication, help practice handwriting skills, and increase cognition.
Imagine going one day without being able to communicate with the world; your thoughts, wants, or needs not being understood by others. This is the challenge that many of my students face on a daily basis.
I teach preschool aged (i.e.
3-5 yrs of age) children with special needs in a Title I school district. My students are very energetic and enjoy learning; however they often face challenges when trying to interact with the world. In the classroom my students learn age-appropriate academic skills, as well as, work on increasing their communication skills, building their social skills, and learning to be independent individuals.
My Project
In receiving an iPad for the classroom, my students will have access to an array of advanced technological applications that will aid in their growth and learning. My students will be able to access and utilize applications specially designed for children with special needs that help with expressive communication, fine motor/handwriting, and social skills.
With access to communication applications my students will be able to use pictures and audio output to display their knowledge and express their wants/needs. Tracing and writing applications will allow students to practice their fine motor/ handwriting skills. In addition to that, I would have access to applications which allow me to create social stories for my students when introducing and teaching life skills.
Our goal as special education teachers is to help our students learn skills that will aid in their growth as they interact with others in a typically functioning and developing world.
Your donations to this project will help with that goal, in turn, making a huge difference in their lives. Please help us to reach our project goal, and thank you for all of the support.
