This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my kindergarten class, I have 18 very active, caring, hardworking and inquisitive minds in my class this year. Their zeal to learn shows in their questioning skills. Majority of them come from a very low socioeconomic background which stems from families in poverty.
Our campus is a Title 1 elementary school with over 80% receiving free/reduced price lunch.
Despite these odds, our campus and my class in particular are very warm and inviting. The students look forward to coming to school daily. The students are excited about learning and they love to explore.
My Project
My districts just introduced the “Bring your own device” “BYOD” policy. Most of my students cannot afford their own devices and we only have one set for the entire school and Kindergarten hardly has a chance to use it. The I pads will be used in class for small group instruction by students who will participate in some project based learning. They will also be able to use them at centers to actively participate in I station which is used to measure student achievement and academic growth, Lexia which is used for intervention and other educational website for science, social studies, and math. I want my students to have ownership of their own learning while having fun and developing technological skills needed for the future.
Technology like 4 iPads and protective cases will help them develop interest in learning with their hands and minds working together.
They will become more successful in a technologically rich environment with no restrictions which they do not have at home.
