My students need technology to increase their ability to access he curriculum, generalize newly learned information and have fun!
My students enter the classroom because they are in crisis in their school environment. They all have social/emotional and behavioral needs, while some may have even more accompanying disabilities that impact their learning. These students require substantial support from staff as well as many sensory materials, technology, etc. that are not provided in a typical classroom. The majority of my students are also from low-income households. These students are not able to access the academic curriculum to the best of their ability due to their social/emotional and behavioral needs.
My goal is to create a welcoming environment with access to materials that will engage students, build coping strategies and allow them the chance to increase their social/emotional skills as well as increase their academic performance.
My classroom is a transitioning period where students are taught coping skills and different behavioral strategies are put into place to then transition to the student to the least restrictive environment where they will then be successful.
My students struggle with participation, motivation and skill acquisition due to their behavioral and emotional struggles. My goal is to present information in a variety of ways in order to increase their ability to access, use and master that information.
My classroom is based upon centers for both ELA and math work.
Having an added technology center with meaningful games and activities in the iPads in order for students to utilize the newly learned information in a creative and fun way is bound to increase their interest and participation! Right now the technology in my classroom is very limited and the children would be beyond excited to have this as an available option to learn!
