I teach kindergarten at a high poverty school in Johnson City, TN.
I have 19 students in my class.
They are a very sweet group of eager learners that get excited about everything I introduce to them! They are lots of fun and they make my job as a teacher very enjoyable!
I love to provide opportunities for my students that they normally would never get the chance to experience. My students are always very appreciative and they love learning new things!
My Project
These iPads will open the world up to my students and help prepare them for both the demands and opportunities of school. My school and school district have purchased several technology websites and apps for students to use. Having access to additional iPads will allow students to have a greater touch times, or experiences, with these tools, websites and apps, and also create and produce more using technology. The goal for my classroom is become 1:1 with devices to better meet the needs of all my students.
Some of the projects I will be able to implement include using apps, such as SeeSaw and Chatterpix, for students to video or take pictures of and upload their writing or math thinking.
These precious samples of their work allow me to give feedback and share a child’s accomplishments easily with parents. Parents love seeing these little snapshots of their child’s day, and it also has the positive effect of increasing family engagement in a child’s academic success.
I will also be able to use the Osmo system already purchased by my school to create hands-on learning activities in math and reading. In addition the activities above, my students will be able to access online library apps to read and listen to a variety of books, and practice math skills. It is my goal to use these iPads in a way to help students show their learning and create unique products to showcase their accomplishments through videos, pictures and presentations, not just passively consume information through technology.
