Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My art students are eager to create original works of art. We have engaged in critical thinking skills to work through Big Ideas such as identity, power, nature, and other socially relevant ideas. Students are inventing original ideas through their sketches and art making processes.
The diversity of the students at my school are at the heart of why I am enthused to be apart of their lives.
They have such a wide range of interests and activities that once they are in the art room they feel as if they can truly express themselves. My school is growing each year and as this is the first year the school is offering art, I believe my students are going to grow even more through their creative processes.
My Project
My students would greatly benefit by having access to iPads in the classroom because of all the applications and features they could have access to. To begin with, I want to encourage students to find their own images and take photographs of them to use as references in their work. This will help them to facilitate original ideas and understand how important it is as an artist to use original thoughts. Additionally, my artists would greatly utilize the features of an image search to help them find outside references to create works of art. My hope is that the iPads in the art room would supplement the original ideas in which they are already inventing and sketching in their sketchbooks.
The iPads would greatly support my desire for my students to have digital access to a plethora of visual images.
I know several of my students are interested in graphic design and I believe the iPads are a great tool to help invest their interests in the growing technical world.
