First grade is an exciting year for many students. It is the year that they go from reading small picture books to chapter books. It is the year that they go from adding numbers up to 10, to adding numbers up to 100. I love watching each one of my students grow through their first grade year!
My first grade classroom is filled with students who are all eager to learn each and every day!
All of my students are from various small country towns in our area and attend our school for Kindergarten (some start at Pre-Kindergarten) through second grade. My goal each and every year is to tap into their love of learning and inspire them to find what they each love!
My Project
This year, the first grade team at my school is using a Guided Math format. This means that students will have the opportunity to learn a new math skill in a whole group lesson and then work in small groups through various centers. These centers include a teacher table, technology, practice page, math journal, and a math game. While I am already provided with the resources for the four other centers, I do not currently have the resources for a technology center.
The iPads I am requesting will be used for the technology center during our Guided Math time.
On the iPads, students can work through various applications that support each students' independent learning. For example, students will have the opportunity to work through the GoMath app, which guides them through games that align with our GoMath curriculum and Common Core State Standards.
While my main focus for these iPads is Guided Math, my students will also be able to use them as a listening center for Guided Reading and other various activities in the classroom. These iPads will be used by students at least twice every day in our classroom and will be key for a smooth transition to using the Guided Math format.
