First grade is an amazing year of tremendous academic growth! Many students enter first grade reading just simple words (consonant-vowel-consonant words or words with beginning blends), but by spring they can really read!
My students learn in a hands-on environment, and we share the joy of learning!
My school is a public school in our local school district. Most of our students come from military families. My students are open, engaged, they love to learn, and they are enthusiastic about school.
I have access to a library of nonfiction eBooks. With these iPads, pairs or small groups of students will be able to conduct research for animal reports. Having a library of books at different reading levels in the convenience of an iPad provides a vastly different research experience to my students. Students can enter their topic and browse from many options. The service I use even has a "read to me" feature, where some books are read-alouds, so students who can not yet read the books can conduct the same research as more advanced readers. I enjoy seeing my curious students work, and providing three iPads to them will provide more opportunities to follow their interests and LEARN!
