My students need two iPads for our special education resource room. We are in desperate need for some new technology to accommodate several students at a time.
Our school is a little home to roughly 300 students. We may be small, but we have a big passion for learning. Our special education resource room is a haven for learning. My students come from all backgrounds and homes. My students strive to master their best success. In this room, we do not look for perfection, but for best effort. When it comes to students with disabilities, there is this preconceived notion that they cannot learn. For our kids, this is not the case.
In this classroom we motivate students by exploring different types of learning and applying what works best for each student.
This year my kindergarten thru third grade level students have had to face many obstacles, both academically and socially. Elementary school comes with many changes for average developing students so for my special education students to be where they are is a great success. They have made leaps and bounds this year to achieve their goals.
My Project
We are asking for funds for two iPads. My class is in desperate need of some extra technology. We use iPads for many different things in the resource room.
For a student with a disability, the right technology can change their academic world.
Many students have anxiety about taking paper tests and doing work on paper. In order to curb this anxious feeling, we can use iPads to administer tests and assignments. We also use applications to help build concrete skills like writing and number/letter organization.
For students with behavior issues, there are many applications for them as well. We use them to show different situations and have students run with appropriate reactions to something that they don't like.
Technology is a huge part of the special education community, and with your help, we can offer our students a stepping stone to their level of success.
